Sorry to hear that. I 've been going there for about 20 years also. Always had good service. If I were you I'd give it another try. And let them know what happened. Good luck.
Yes
Great atmosphere. A staple of Castro Valley. I wish they used less packaged food: pancake mix, frozen potatoes, etc. Friendly and fast service, good place to meet up with family and friends.
I have been going to Doug's restaurant for years and have never gotten a bad meal. The service is quite good and waiters are for the most part attractive to your needs. The decorations are posters of early movie stars and movie posters. It is the place to eat in Castro Valley. They open until 3pm.Try it and I am sure most everyone will return again.
Great food great people
Really good breakfast place. I only wish they had more non meat options
Stopped by here once. Never had such an experience, especially the food. Yummy.
I had the veggie omelet it was delicious, the only knock was the fruit I replaced with potatoes only had cantaloupe and honeydew melon . The place was packed on a monday morning(always a good sign). It had a great nostalgia and great cinema, movie and theatre memorabilia.
I love this place, but it's hit-or-miss. It seems they're too busy for their own good sometimes. Food might be cold, wait staff occasionally forgets you. This is a VERY local place, we've given it more than enough chances to get it right. To be fair, we've only gone for breakfast, always on weekends, maybe a dozen times. Portions are good, there's usually a wait on weekends, and you'll be fed reasonably well.
Comfy place. Good omelette, large size. The potatoes were fried and didn’t taste great. Apparently they have a new owner now
Food portions well worth the money... real chill simply breakfast
Great service and good size portions. I had to tip them well, the service was that good and got a to-go box.
A+ hash browns, crispy yet fluffy with a delicate buttery taste. A, they have sourdough!! Plus delightfully heavy handed on the butter. A, stronger than normal diner coffee. Could improve on; pancakes, a bit dry, syrup is the prepackaged Smucker’s brand. Would like to see a pure maple option even if it’s an up-charge. Bottom line: will go again to try other items.
Not sure if this place is under new management or not, but I can tell you this last visit was the last. The toast was burned and hard. The hash browns were also burned and greasy, the over medium eggs were done right along with the bacon, but the coffee had a bitter stale taste, they kept it on the bill anyway. We paid and tipped, but we won't be returning. A good hit it was not going to be the same as usual (the place was close to empty at noon, on a Sunday.) We usually have to wait to be seated. I wouldn't recommend this place anymore.
One of my all time favorite places to eat. Me and my grandma used to eat there every week. So when I was back in town I had to take my kids to try it. Great food Big portions good vibes and great staff. This is not a gourmet place so disregard some of the lower ratings complaining about the food not being fancy. If you have never eaten here I highly recommend getting trying Doug’s.
Favorite local restaurant for breakfast and lunch. Speedy and friendly service. Food is good and consistent.
Good portions for the price. Met a friend for breakfast. She ordered pancakes with bacon and eggs, and a side of hash browns. They were really generous with the bacon - she's a regular and was surprised it was much more than usual - and the side of hash browns was easily twice the amount I've seen anywhere else. My omelette was perfectly cooked, cheesy and stuffed with linguica, tomatoes and onions. Service was prompt, attentive without being obtrusive and patient. So why the 4 stars? I asked for extra crispy hash browns, and they tasted slightly burnt. Also, the coffee, although strong, was average. Still, if you're in the area and want breakfast, it's worth checking out.
Good ol' American Food, the Way it Should BeThis family friendly restaurant in Castro Valley is a welcome find for a Sunday lunch with family. Their straight forward menu has the comfort foods I grew up with and didn't try to overdo it with too many selections. The staff is energetic and accommodating, the food better than I expected, and the atmosphere upbeat and positive. They seemed to be popular and busy for Sunday lunch, but our wait was super short. We'll definitely be back!
Nice place for breakfast and lunch, it's been in business for years.. Large portions of basic cafe style food. Next to Lucky Grocery Store, and assorted stores in the mall. We grab a meal before shopping.
Great service great food. Looks the same as it did in the 80's when i was a kid
Awesome, friendly service here. I highly recommend this place instead of IHOP or Denny's. It's not noticeable from the streets but it does get pack in the weekends.. Love their hot chocolate....
The place is comfy and clean it was very busy though we did not have to wait as long as we thought for a table. The servers we're very friendly the coffee kept coming, the food was so so. I ordered the corned beef hash which came out of a can no biggie linguica was very dry pressed and possibly forgotten. My husband ordered pancakes that were very tough (another customer told us so but we had to check for ourselves) loaded hashbrowns they were good and hot his eggs sausage were served cold. $45 for two with coffee. BLT w/avocado look good. We won't be back. Service was good food not so good p.s. my hashbrowns were perfect.
Doug's Place is THE BEST! I am from Los Angeles, and I come to Doug's every chance I get when I come to the Bay Area. They have the Best Crispy Waffles, which are My Absolute Favorite. The HashBrowns are so DELICIOUS, golden brown and buttery every time. The Bacon is Thick Cut and cooked to crunchy perfection! I dont come often, however, the food is CONSISTENTLY DELICIOUS EVERY TIME!! A great place to come for all ages. Today at Doug's I had the pleasure of meeting a couple who have been coming to Doug's Place since the Grand Opening, the Wife is 94 years young, and the Husband 101 years young! Beautiful. My cousin and I (36 years young) have frequently visited Doug's Place for about 6 years now.
Nice staff clean place with a old look to it and average tasting food with big portions and a average bay area prices
Just found this place!! Best American breakfast I ever had!! The place is so cozy that I felt like I 2as in the mountains or the woods.. Food is so tasty and feels like you're eating homemade breakfast! Staff is really friendly and service is fast. This was my 1st visit of many more for sure.
Pancakes very disappointing- with a butter knife or fork I could not cut into them ... besides crumbling apart it was like eating stale French bread ...
I've never really been a fan of their food, their prices seem a bit too high, and the coffee tastes burnt. The only thing I can say to its credit is that the employees are nice
This restaurant is my favorite. I visit many restaurants but here I constantly return again and again. The stuff is very helpful and the food they serve is so fresh and tasty. I never miss an opportunity to have a nice meal here. I highly recommend this place.
Some really delicious food at a sit down cafe/diner type place. It's been there for decades. Longer than I can remember. And the food has only gotten better. The hashbrowns are consistently crispy and buttery and delicious. The eggs are made exactly as ordered, every time. The pancakes are better than homemade or at any other restaurant I have had them at. No lie! Top quality ingredients, at one of my favorite places in the East Bay to eat. You're missing out if you haven't eaten at Doug's Place.
One of my main places to eat. awesome location, clean, and great customer service. I recommend this place!
I REALLY enjoy Doug’s Place for the food, atmosphere, and great service! Their food quality is consistent, the servers are attentive, the food is seasoned just right, meals arrive fairly quickly, and above all your order is correct upon delivery! This is definitely a go to spot for a delicious breakfast meal.
Doug’s Place is the quintessential breakfast spot for Castro Valley locals and travelers alike. A morning person’s dream destination smothered in caramelized onions! My experience spans more than three decades of frequent breakfasts making Doug’s a tradition for me, my family and friends. Good food, great nostalgic atmosphere.
Always quality food, service is amazing - so fast. Great price
Wonderful atmosphere and very amiable service. The menu was fresh and enchanting. Will definitely recommend this spot to anyone. Fair rates and large meals. Keep up the great work.
Very good breakfast place. Omelette are their specialty. The interior reminds me of old timey pizza place (remember Shakey's?)
Other than never going to CV I don't know how I've never eaten at this place. Food was good, our waiter was very courteous. Hidden spot to bring your boo. We went for breakfast have to go back to see if vibe is the same for lunch/dinner
Large fresh fast meals & service!
Another good visit to Doug's Place. My wife had the French toast and I had corned beef hash. As always the portion size was great and the hash was tasty. Definitely recommend.
A friend brought me here for breakfast, well worth it. The service was first-class and the food was very delicious. Will be back.
I've only been here twice but the food and service are great! The hash browns are exactly how I like them - nice and crispy. The waiter even suggested grilled onions to go with my hash browns. BEST. DECISION. EVER. Food comes out quickly and there is no wait to be seated. Portions are generous in my opinion. I will definitely be back again!
